Vijendra Chhipa hails from Bagru, a town that has gotten more and more famous over the years for its resilient handicrafts industry. Belonging to a family that has been making garments using the block printing technique for five generations, Chhipa himself has been working on his art for some thirty five years now and is happy to have all kinds of designers visit him to commission their work. He works on cotton that is organic and eco-friendly and tells us that it takes time and effort to do block printing as opposed to machine printing which he believes to be a ‘mindless’ activity. Chhipa is proud of the fact that there is a lot of uniqueness in every piece that he makes. It is difficult to exactly replicate the same thing again.
