There is a sense of calm that comes with clean design and thoughtful planning. And Chandigarh, the city Shirin Salwan grew up in, embodies that. The various design elements that can be found in Chandigarh and the city’s eclectic architecture found their way into Salwan’s designs, even years after she left her hometown for the hustle and bustle of Mumbai. In the city of dreams, where everyone’s in a rush chasing something or the other, Salwan wished for garments that can provide a much-needed breather—easy basics, if you will. This is what her brand Saphed offers: breezy linens that are easy to pair, mix and match. Through her journey as a designer and entrepreneur, Salwan has been conscious about moving at a slow and steady pace, and strongly believes that the hero of her brand is the fabric.
Shirin Salwan’s garments, with its clean lines and muted colours, embody the Esprit Nouveau of Le Corbusier’s Chandigarh, the designer’s home city.
