Deepit Chugh wanted to break the monotony in India’ menswear fashion scene, after having spent about two decades working with what he calls ‘hardcore mass’ retail brands. He felt that it’s all either khadi-oriented menswear or just wedding wear, and nothing in between. After a lot of ideation, planning and braving a pandemic that threw a spanner in the works, Chugh launched his brand Line Outline. He now works with his small team—an assistant designer and three tailors—from a studio in Mulund, Mumbai that he set up in 2022.
The brand, with its unconventional silhouettes and cuts, follows a minimalist aesthetic. Inclusivity is at the core of Line Outline, with its collections appealing to women and all individuals across the gender spectrum. The aim is to colour outside of conventionally drawn lines: this was the thought that inspired the brand name. Slowly but surely, Chugh is carving a space for a menswear aesthetic that is experimental yet functional and wearable.
In a world of abundance for women, Line Outline seeks to redress the balance by creating tailored garments for the men of today.
Line Outline is a cry against what the designer Deepit Chugh calls ‘hardcore mass’ retail, where the choice of clothes that men can wear is severely limited in range and imagination. Line Outline is an attempt at changing this state of affairs.
