Shweta Gupta, founder of the label SWGT, values the journey that she must undertake to create a new collection. Her specific process is laid out in the words ‘seeker, wanderer, gatherer, and thinker,’ the initials of which form the name of her brand. Before starting her brand in 2018, she was actively looking for a muse. It was while she was travelling through Uttarakhand, in a small town called Harsil, that Gupta found the answer: the mountains. Observing the natural folds and ridges of the mountains and the way different colours reflected off of them, she began making her colour story and sketching out the basic forms. The play of light and shadow she saw throughout the day is reflected in the forms the pleats and cuts of her garments take when the body moves.
Gupta’s ultimate victory lies in creating clothes that the wearer can appreciate: from small details that one would only notice up-close to a fabric that’s soft to touch, and smart cuts that flatter the wearer’s body type.
Inspired by mountains and their peaks, SWGT is a celebration of garments that elevate your not just your style but also, your senses.
With her brand being a process laid out in the first letters of the words ‘Seeker, Wander, Gatherer and Thinker’, Shweta Gupta is a master of moving forms, as the body moves, there is a kind of fluidity inspired by the sharp light and shade one observes in the Himalayas.
