Swatti Kapoor, a designer from NIFT Delhi, began her career with a philosophy degree and a deep understanding of the balance between order and chaos. As a slightly older student, she often stood out from her peers for her meticulousness, but a jurist challenged her to embrace imperfection. This openness to imperfection later influenced her work. For instance, in one of her collections, she used the pomegranate tree—a symbol of fertility associated with the goddess Venus—to inspire rich colors like purples and aubergines in her designs. The garments combined chanderi and cotton with intricate hand block printing, beaded tassels, and embellishments.
Kapoor's philosophical grounding in Pratītyasamutpāda, a Buddhist concept emphasizing interdependence, is reflected in her brand ethos, which balances handmade artistry with relaxed luxury. Following a brief venture into bridalwear after working with Tarun Tahiliani, the pandemic and its effect on the wedding industry pushed Kapoor to re-evaluate her focus. She decided to create clothes that she could wear herself—garments meant for everyday as much as for special occasions.
